Meet Your Instructor

Ernest SmithErnest L. Smith, CTP, M.B.A.

Ernest L. Smith is senior vice president, North Texas regional sales manager at BBVA Compass. Smith is responsible for a staff of 10 TM professionals, providing TM product sales and support to clients in the North Texas region. Before joining BBVA Compass, Smith spent 16 years at JPMorgan Chase, including six years as a Commercial Banker and three years as a Private Client Advisor. Prior to Chase, he spent three years at South Main Bank as Credit Officer and Compliance Officer. Smith has 23 years of banking experience and 15 years of treasury management experience. He received his B.S.B.A. in Finance from the University of Arizona and his MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.

Smith has been teaching CTP exam preparation at the University of Dallas since 2011. He is active in the local AFP chapter and has been part of the committee that reviews test questions on the actual CTP exam.

Tuition and Discounts

Tuition includes the twelve virtual Tuesday evening online live courses, and all course materials required to participate in the class. Tuition fee does not include cost of the CTP certification exam.

EARLY-BIRD REGISTRATION TUITION RATES:

Students can qualify for an early bird discount by completing the registration process (including full payment) by the early bird deadline. The early bird period ends 30 days from the start of the class. To qualify for the early bird discount, students must fill out and submit the online application form and submit payment before the early bird deadline (see registration deadline section for deadline information).

OTHER DISCOUNTS: The University offers discounts to UD Alumni and Students, UD Employees, Government Employees (federal and local), US Veterans, and AFP or FPA Dallas members. To qualify for the discount, students must provide an active .edu or .gov email, UD ID, or membership number.

Payment Options

The University of Dallas accepts the following forms of payment: 

  • Cash payments: Our Office of Finance receives cash payments during regular business hours. 
  • Credit/Debit card payments: We accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express using our online payment portal. 
  • Check payments: Make the check payable to "University of Dallas," write the student's name and id number in the memo, and mail it to University of Dallas - Business Office, 1845 E. Northgate Drive, Irving, TX 75062
  • Letters of Credit: Please get in touch with Jennifer Howard at jlhoward@litpliant.net for more information on this option. 
  • Payment Arrangement: We have a payment arrangement option for students who need a little help. This option divides Tuition into multiple payments. Executive Education students who wish to participate must complete and fill out the Payment Arrangement section of the application to enroll in this option.

How payment arrangements work: Payments are billed monthly. You submit the first payment when you sign up for the payment arrangement. You can make all subsequent payments before the due date. The University must receive all payments in the agreement before releasing any certificate or transcript.

CATEGORY EXPLANATIONS:

  • Work experience: Full-time in a career-based cash/treasury management or corporate finance-related position. The professional experience requirement to sit for the CTP exam is a minimum of two years full-time work experience in a career-based corporate cash/treasury management or corporate finance-related position. Positions such as internships, vacation/holiday employment or volunteer positions do not qualify in meeting the full-time experience requirement.
  • Education: Graduate or Master's degree in business, finance, or accountancy.
  • Teaching experience: Full-time college or university level teaching experience in a finance-related topic.
